Henrico's Food Bank

Our History

The Henrico Community Food Bank began when founder Sudeshna noticed a  critical gap: there was no organization solely dedicated to feeding Henrico County's 30,000 food-insecure residents. What started as a kitchen table idea has now grown into a powerful nonprofit focused on making food access equitable and client-centered.

With a focus on "localizing" food access and putting clients first, the Food Bank’s leadership made a strategic shift - they moved away from the traditional pantry model and embraced a mobile food distribution system. This innovative approach breaks down barriers to food access by meeting residents where they are, eliminating the need for transportation or missing a day of work - bringing fresh produce, dairy, protein, and pantry staples directly to homes. The mobile model also allows the organization to team up with other resource partners to provide additional support.

Now, with the help of a dedicated grassroots community of volunteers and  partners, the Henrico Community Food Bank is a powerful force against  hunger. Using its mobile delivery program, a food assistance hotline, and targeted community distributions, the organization delivers fresh produce, protein, pantry staples and household essentials throughout the length and breadth of Henrico County to those facing food insecurity, thus turning a kitchen table idea into an effective and thriving solution for the community.

Mission & Vision

Provide access to nutritious food in an equitable and dignified manner to those in need.

HCFB envisions a County where healthy, nutritious food is available to all. Creating value and opportunities for clients thus empowering them to shape a secure and enriched future.
